A differently abled person - deaf and dumb - completed his studies obtaining “A” grade.  Thereafter he attended many interviews and passed in written exams but was unable to get a job as he could not answer oral questions due to his inability to hear or speak.  He would request them to give the questions in writing so that he could respond but prospective employers did not oblige.

His elder brother met me and explained the plight of his younger brother.  He said that they had enough wealth to support his brother for his life time but he was adamant to live off his own earnings.

I then picked up a piece of paper and wrote my advice on it.  I gave it to him and asked him to pass it on to his brother to be used during his subsequent interview which will guarantee employment.

A zen monk and his disciples we crossing a deep and dangerous gorge en route to their ashram.   He noticed a young girl in the gorge, struggling.  She also wanted to cross to the other side.  The monk asked his disciples that one of them go and lift the girl and help her to safely reach the other side.
The disciples, in unison, refused, saying that it was a sin to even touch a girl, leave alone lifting her and carrying her over to the other end.  How can you, our guru and teacher, ask us to do such an act?
To this the guru replied that a life is more precious than our sanyasi dharma.  If your conscience is clear and not perverted, then a young girl and a new born will look similar in your eyes.  Moreover, in the absence of a ferry service, it would be impossible for the girl to cross over.  So we must help.  However none of the disciples obliged and the guru took it upon himself to carry the girl safely to the other end.

Immediately the disciples questioned the guru how he could go and do this?   To this the guru responded with two questions.  One was, “Our dharma says disciples should accept whatever the guru says.  How many of you did?”  The second was, “I have offloaded the girl at the other end a long time ago, why have you all not offloaded her from your mind yet?”
This story teaches us two things.

If we are to choose between a human life and principles, we must be prepared to compromise on principles.

Once Buddha went to a village with all his five disciples. The villagers were fully against Buddha and his doctrines. So they started scolding him and his disciples with whatever un-diplomatic and un-parliamentary words they knew.

Buddha and his disciples were just hearing all those abuses and were smiling. The villagers and their chief increased the intensity of their abuse, but still there was no change in the facial expression of the great saint and his disciples. The villagers changed the style and intensity of their abuse and continued to spell them out till they got tired.

At last, the village chief asked Buddha,

“Are you not ashamed? You are smiling even after hearing so much of abuse”

The Saint replied,

“Earlier in the day we were in a neighbouring village where they offered us lots of sweets. As we could not eat them all, we took only what we could eat and returned everything back to them”

“We don’t have any need of the abuse all of you are showering on us and hence we have returned everything back to you”

The chief and villagers were shocked by the reply and later became the Saint’s Disciples.

Every day we see lots of things in shops and malls but we purchase only the things that we need and neglect all other unwanted things.

Why can’t we follow the same principle to the words we hear? Bad words and abuses are common and we get influenced by them. Sometime we get irritated, get angry and even retaliate that has lots of repercussions.

Why get into such troubles when you have an easy way of just ignoring it. Do not take everything you hear to your mind and get influenced by them. Ignore and reject those unwanted words that are not pleasant and this would let your mind stay in peace.

Secret of Gun in a Farm Land

This is a real story that happened in a small village in India which I am sharing now. An old farmer lived in a village where here were no technical advancements and he was also poor. He was hardworking and had a son who was brilliant.

The son helped his father in his farming and did all the labours manually to yield a good harvest of potatoes every year. But unfortunately one day the son had to kill a real bad person in the village and he was arrested by the police.

So when the time of ploughing the farm land for planting fresh potatoes arrived, the father had no source of doing that as earlier all of the ploughing was done by his son in past manually. In distress he wrote a letter to his son who was in prison stating the difficulty he was facing in ploughing and also stated that he cannot carry out farming that year.

He received a reply from his son from the prison where his son was locked up. In the letter, he informed his father that he also felt bad for the situation and also advised his father not to plough the field under any circumstances as he had kept a gun buried secretly in the field.

The father was confused as he knew that his son was not of that type and was pondering what would be the truth behind the contents of the letter.

The very next day, police force entered the village with sufficient manpower and they started digging their farm. Every inch of the farm land was dug and searched for the gun and at last they left bare handed as they could not find the gun.

After a couple of days, the farmer received a letter from his son. The son asked his father in the letter to go ahead with the sowing process as ploughing job is fully completed and he also stated in his letter that being in prison, this is what he could do to help his father for bringing the manpower for ploughing the land.

Whatever be the circumstance or difficulty you are in, if you have the brains and the unwavering thinking capability then you can find a solution to any problem and execute it successfully.

பரிதாபத்திற்குரியவர்களோடு மட்டுமே ஒருவன் தன்னை ஒப்பிட்டுக் கொள்ள மாட்டான்.
தன்னை விட வலிமை படைத்தவனோடும், மதிப்பு மரியாதை கொண்டவனோடும் ஒப்பிட ஆரம்பிப்பான்.
அதனால், துக்கமே உண்டாகும். 

 தனக்கு கீழே உள்ளவர்களை பார்த்து மகிழ்ச்சி அடைதல் என்பது, அவர்களின் துன்பமான நிலமையை கண்டு நாம் மகிழ்ச்சி அடைவது தானே. அது ஒரு கேவலமான மனப்பான்மை.

கூடியிருந்த அனைவரும் தமக்குப் பிடிக்குமென கையைத் தூக்கினர்.
பேச்சாளார் “உங்களில் ஒருவருக்கு இந்த 1000 ரூபாயைத் தருகிறேன். ஆனால், அதற்கு முன்” எனச்சொல்லி அந்த 1000 ரூபாயைக் கசக்கி சுருட்டினார். பிறகு அதை சரி செய்து “இப்போதும் இதன் மீது உங்களுக்கு இன்னும் விருப்பம் இருக்கிறதா?” என்றார்.
